Bandstand Blues – August 23rd

We have another date in the Arboretum coming up. Sunday afternoon, 23rd August we’ll be playing blues at the Bandstand with invited guests and all comers.

Yes, if you play well enough to be happy having a jam, bring your instrument and we’ll see what we can do. There isn’t much in the way of amplification, but we’re happy to talk in advance if you want something particular.

The rules are basically:

1. Rock up.
2. Rock out.

Kick off is around 2pm, until we run out of ideas or they cut the power and unleash the hounds.

Upcoming Gigs

We have a few spots coming up if you’re in the Walsall area. We’d love to see you there and even sit in.

May 30th, The Olive Tree – A delightfully bijou venue in Walsall right beside the bus station. Charity gig, so bring some pennies to donate to Leukaemia Care. There will be a couple of sets from half seven. If you have no cup final tickets, or want to forget the scoreline, drop in.

June 13th, Walsall Arboretum Bandstand – Afternoon gig. Watch out for publicity closer to the event for times. We’re very lucky to get a Saturday gig here and we’re hoping the weather will hold. Apparently there’s a Reg Dwight concert on locally, but hopefully we can warm up for him, eh?

August 23rd, Walsall Arboretum Bandstand – This one’s a Sunday afternoon, and you’re welcome to turn up and join in. Bring your trumpet, flute, guitar, harmonica or whatever along and sit in with the band. We’ll be playing bits and pieces and you can find your groove with us. We tried it last year and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Do pop along to any of the gigs. Come to all of them. It’s going to be rather fun.

Walsall Arboretum Bandstand – here we come!

Summer’s here, and the time is right for Dancing in the Street. Or maybe Jamming in the Arboretum.

Dischord are down at Walsall Arboretum in the Bandstand from two-ish on Sunday 20th July. We’ll be crafting gentle blues-based accompaniments to your post-prandial strolling, encouraging you to groove to sublime rhythmic invention, and giving you a reason to stay put for a while and listen to music you’d only otherwise encounter in high class lifts.

We’ll be presenting our sonic discourse with the help of invited guests and walk-on minstrels, having a hack at improvising our way round an hour or two. You’re more than welcome to join us.

Sow and Pigs – good for Gigs

We played at the Sow and Pigs in West Bromwich on Saturday night. They’re a brilliant crowd, with some local character! We had Dave joining us for his first gig as our drummer, plenty of blues and the occasional ale to help us on our way.

We loved playing there, and hope Jason will have us back at some point. Maybe next time we’ll take a microphone with us so we can sing some numbers as well.

Looking back while looking forward

We had a lovely time at The Spark in Lichfield last week, and played a pleasant enough first set.

At the end of the first hour, the audience member left.

Shot from the stage. Hello, Lichfield.

Shot from the stage. Hello, Lichfield.

They closed the venue and we went home.

The up side to this is simple – we didn’t alienate anyone with an early finish, and we got a swift post gig pint in with plenty of time.

Obviously the night before Valentine’s Day isn’t a big night out in Lichfield. The people who had said they might come were unable to.

By comparison, our gig in Kenilworth can now be considered a rousing success. Check out the EP from that night and consider downloading a copy. It’s good for the ears and the soul.

If you want that empty room sensation this coming weekend, we’re at the Sow and Pigs in West Bromwich on Saturday March 1st. We’ve managed to convince a drummer to have pity and play along with us, and there may be guest appearances by other friends of ours. This is the heart and soul of the music – make it up and make it good. We look forward to seeing you there.
